The Role
As a Master Technician / Diagnostic Technician, this will be a high-profile role within our workshop, designed for a true diagnostic specialist. Reporting directly to the Workshop Manager, you will be the “go-to” expert for the most challenging electrical, mechanical, and system faults. You will work with premium, up-to-date diagnostic hardware and software to resolve issues on a diverse mix of vehicle makes, models, and hybrid/electric vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Complex Fault Finding: Diagnose and rectify advanced electrical, engine management, safety system (ADAS), and mechanical faults that others cannot solve.
- Advanced Equipment Use: Utilise master-level diagnostic tools, oscilloscopes, and live data logging to map out precise vehicle health reports.
- Technical Problem Solving: Read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, system schematics, and manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Efficiency & Quality: Provide accurate repair pathways for the workshop team, minimizing diagnostic time and maximizing “right-first-time” fixes.
- Team Mentorship: Offer technical guidance and support to Level 2 and Level 3 technicians on complex repair procedures.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 or 4 (or equivalent Master Tech status) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience specifically focused on advanced vehicle diagnostics.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in modern vehicle electronics, CAN-bus networks, and multi-brand diagnostic platforms.
- Licence: A full, clean UK Driving Licence is essential. An active MOT Tester Licence or EV/Hybrid qualification is highly desirable.
- Traits: A logical thinker with meticulous attention to detail who thrives on solving complex technical puzzles.
