Job Title: Workshop / Garage Manager, Service Manager
We are now seeking a driven, highly experienced Workshop / Garage / Service Manager to lead our day-to-day operations, establish our presence, and grow a new business with us.
We are an exciting, brand-new Independent Garage and MOT Centre opening soon in Harrow! Armed with a modern workshop setup, state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, and fresh facilities, we are building a premier automotive repair team from the ground up. Location: Harrow, Greater London
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Hours: Monday – Friday (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) & Alternate Saturdays
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience) + Performance Bonus
The Role
As our Workshop Manager, you will take full ownership of the daily operations of a fast-paced environment. You will be directly responsible for leading, mentoring, and managing a skilled team consisting of 6 Vehicle Technicians and 1 Service Advisor. Your ultimate focus will be maximizing workshop efficiency, maintaining strict safety and MOT compliance, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Oversee, schedule, and support a workflow for 6 technicians and 1 Service Advisor to maximise productivity and billable hours.
- Daily Operations: Manage the workshop diary, parts ordering, and job allocations to ensure smooth throughput.
- Quality & Compliance: Maintain robust workshop safety standards and ensure all legal compliance regarding MOT testing and vehicle repairs is strictly met.
- Customer Excellence: Work alongside the Service Advisor to resolve escalations, provide accurate estimates, and deliver an outstanding customer journey.
- Business Growth: Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify operational bottlenecks, and work closely with ownership to prepare the site for future scaling and expansion.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of proven experience in a similar role (e.g., Workshop Manager, Garage Manager, or strong Assistant Manager looking to step up).
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of modern mechanical repairs, vehicle diagnostics, and standard DVSA MOT testing procedures.
- People Management: Demonstrated ability to motivate a technical team, manage dynamic staff rotas, and mentor junior staff.
- Communication Skills: Confident communicator capable of working seamlessly between the workshop floor and front-of-house customer service.
- Licence: A full, clean UK Driving Licence is essential. An active MOT Tester Licence is highly advantageous but not mandatory.
